I made myself a seat out of a piece of sheet metal and some 2,5 cm (one inch) thick (or shall we say thin?) foampad, you know the sort you have in those camping matresses, very light, sucks no water. Covered it with thin black leather. For my butt this is the perfect seat, rather hard but I can ride for hours, no problem at all. The important thing is the shape of the saddle, not the filling. In the original saddle you sit like in a pot, it is very difficult to move even just a little. My seat is maybe slightly wider than the original, but very flat, so I can move a bit forward or backwards if needed. Also, I have forward footpegs and that helps even more than a seat rebuild.
Try to build your own, Jon, you're a handy man! It is fun, cheap and rewarding !
